Every Upcoming Marvel Movie

When people think of Marvel movies, they usually think of the MCU (not surprising since it's currently the biggest movie franchise ever and regularly dominates the international box office) - but the MCU doesn't account for all of the many Marvel movies that will be released over the next few years. Some rights to Marvel properties are still owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, and while they have an ongoing relationship with Marvel and Disney at this point, it's not entirely clear how their movies will tie into the MCU.

Still, new Marvel updates on movies from both studios are being announced almost weekly. Below you can find all the confirmed news on big screen Marvel release dates. San Diego Comic-Con International 2022 was particularly notable for a slew of new information from Marvel and Disney, including the MCU Blade reboot and clarification of release dates for films like Captain America: New World Order. They also revealed that after Black Panther, MCU Phase 5 will officially begin following Wakanda Forever. Kevin Feige confirmed that the MCU is currently in the Multiverse Saga and that Kang the Conqueror is the main antagonist of Phase 5.

Both Marvel Studios and Sony are now working with directors who bring their own unique tone and style but with more creative control. This has led to a wider range of atmospheres in recent projects, and future Marvel movies are likely to repeat this. The cinematic superhero genre is proving to be constantly evolving, and Marvel movies are leading the way. Here are all the details and Marvel release dates for the MCU movies and Sony movies coming out in 2022 and 2023.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - November 11, 2022

One of Marvel's most highly anticipated release dates, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released on November 11, 2022. Ryan Coogler's Black Panther quickly became one of the most acclaimed Marvel movies by fans. Even if its international gross is not on the same level as Avengers: Infinity War, it is undeniably a staggering critical and commercial success for Marvel Studios. It's no surprise that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been part of Marvel's MCU Phase 4 plans since early 2018, with Coogler back in the director's chair. After the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman, there are no plans to revive T'Challa, and from the footage in the trailers, it looks like the character has passed away in the MCU just the same. The sequel will focus on other aspects of Wakandan culture in the MCU.

Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, will play a central role, but while there will be a new Black Panther, her identity is still a mystery. However, it has been finalized who the Black Panther will be: Wakanda Forever introduces Namor and the Talocan underwater kingdom. Namor is a character Marvel Comics fans have wanted to see on the big screen for years, and the clash between Talocan and Wakanda is already looking like a historic moment in the MCU. With all the Marvel release dates on the horizon, the fact that this movie will introduce both Namor and a new Black Panther means that Wakanda Forever will be a game-changer for the MCU.

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special - November 25, 2022

Coinciding with the Christmas season around the world, Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be released on November 25, 2022. While not high on the list of Marvel release dates that most Marvel audiences prioritize, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special trailer promises a fun respite sandwiched between the hard-hitting events of the Multiverse Saga. When Kraglin (Sean Gunn) realizes it's Christmas on Earth, Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax (Dave Bautista) embark on an adventure like no major MCU character has ever embarked on before - trying to make Star-Lord (Christ Pratt), who is upset about Gamora (Zoe Saldana), happy for Christmas.'

The cast of Holiday Special includes Star-Lord/Peter Quill, Mantis, Drax, Kraglin, Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a slightly more mature Groot (Vin Diesel), Nebula (Karen Gilan), Cosmo the Spacedog (Maria Bakalova), and Kevin Bacon in his first MCU role; from the trailer, it looks like Drax and Mantis will try to kidnap Kevin Bacon as part of Star-Lord's Christmas surprise, which looks hilarious even from the glimpses already seen.

Kraven The Hunter - January 13, 2023

The next movie in Marvel's upcoming non-MCU release dates is Kraven the Hunter. Following in the footsteps of Venom and Morbius, Sony Pictures' Marvel Universe of Characters will continue with another movie focusing on a Spider-Man villain. Whether Kraven will be part of Sony's anticipated Sinister Six movie has yet to be confirmed. However, Kraven was an integral member of the villain team, so it seems likely. The idea of a solo movie was first floated in 2018. By 2020, there was a script written by Richard Wenk and later rewritten by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Soon after, J.C. Chandor entered talks to direct the movie.

Little was heard about potential developments in the months that followed. But in May 2021, production took a big leap forward with Aaron Taylor-Johnson taking on the role of Kraven. Since then, numerous teaser trailers and first-look images have been released. Scheduled for release in early 2023, there have been questions about the film's potential place in Sony's Spider-Man universes and the wider MCU multiverse, especially given Aaron Taylor-Johnson's previous turn in the MCU as Quicksilver/Pietro Maximoff.

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania - February 17, 2023

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters in 2023 and anticipation for the long-awaited trilogy is already building. Following Ant-Man and The Wasp, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) are confirmed to embark on a third outing. Among the most notable Marvel updates at SDCC 2022 is that Ant-Man 3 will be the first film in Phase 5 of the MCU. The duo will once again be joined by Michael Douglas' Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet van Dyne. Kathryn Newton will take on the character of Cassie Lang in Endgame, despite being played by Emma Fuhrmann in Avengers: Endgame. Peyton Reed has once again taken over as director, with Rick and Morty's Jeff Loveness penning the script.

Although filming was completed in 2021, the movie's release date has been set for early 2023, a symptom of the pandemic-induced timing changes. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania looks like it will be worth the wait, as the shrinking superheroes face their biggest challenge yet in the big screen debut of iconic Marvel villain Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), seen in the Ant-Man 3 trailer wearing his comic book-accurate metallic purple and green armor.

Providing a longer look at the Quantum Realm, the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer also reveals the advanced city and massive army built by Kang the Conqueror. The general outline of the movie's plot was also revealed. Cassie Lang, who appears on screen for the first time in the trailer with her new version, builds a device that sends signals to the Quantum Realm in order to contact or save other lost souls, causing Cassie, Scott, Hope, Janet and Hank to be drawn into this realm. At the end of the Ant-Man 3 trailer, Kang offers Scott a deal, the details of which remain unclear. What's more, while the trailer doesn't show MODOK, who is confirmed to appear as a villain in the film, it does include the first on-screen look at Bill Murrays' MCU character.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - May 5, 2023

Marvel's updates on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have been shaky for years as production on the movie has taken a tumultuous path. Most notably, director James Gunn was fired by Disney after offensive jokes he made on Twitter years ago resurfaced. After both fans and colleagues strongly supported Gunn, the decision was made to rehire him, although not before he was snapped up by Warner Bros. to direct The Suicide Squad. Gunn quickly moved on to the Peacemaker TV spinoff after that. This and various other Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 delays meant that filming didn't start until the final months of 2021.

The plot of Guardians 3 is being kept under wraps but it will provide a closer look into Rocket Raccoon's past and Peter Quill will deal with a version of Gamora who doesn't remember him. However, Thor: Love and Thunder, it has been confirmed that the entire cast will return following cameo appearances by the Guardians. Will Poulter will finally bring Adam Warlock to the screen after the post-credits tease of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017, and Chukwudi Iwuji will portray High Evolutionary, an interesting character from Marvel Comics.
