Apple sued after privacy settings proved unable to stop user tracking by iPhone

Apple is currently the defendant in a class action lawsuit from iPhone users claiming that Apple collected user data despite being promised by Apple's own privacy settings that no personal data would be collected Gizmodo recently reported that even if you have Even if you have disabled iPhone Analytics, Apple is still receiving large amounts of information about you, which appears to put the company in a major discrepancy, according to a report.

Gizmodo previously reported that Tommy Mysk and Talal Haj Bakry, a pair of app developers and security researchers, made a startling discovery while working for a software company called Mysk: the App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV, Books and Stocks, some of Apple's apps were collecting users' personal data even when iPhone Analytics was turned off. This appears to be happening across all of Apple's native iPhone apps.

Apple collects personal data even when iPhone Analytics is disabled

A YouTube video posted by Mysk reveals how the App Store collects personal data in real time, including keys tapped, apps viewed, ads viewed and even the length of time spent looking at App Store listings. The plaintiff in the case is Elliot Libman, who accuses Apple of violating the California Invasion of Privacy Act. Apple is appealing to privacy to differentiate its iPhone from Android devices, and Libman says that privacy is one of the main issues Apple uses to differentiate its products from its competitors. But Apple's privacy guarantee is a complete illusion." He stated.

Mysk found that the data Apple receives from users also includes specific ID numbers, the model of phone they are using including display resolution, their internet connection, the language used on their keyboard, etc. The Stocks app tracks revealed a list of stocks, the time the quote was checked and news articles read about the company.

Tommy Mysk, one of the researchers who discovered how Apple's app tracks users, noted that "the level of detail is shocking for a company like Apple." And given that the information harvested by Apple can determine a user's interest in the LGBTQ community and whether the user has health or addiction issues, it is not surprising that the lawsuit was filed.

Speaking about the lawsuit, "Through its extensive and illegal data tracking and collection operations, Apple has gained access to the most intimate and potentially embarrassing aspects of users' app use, regardless of whether users accept Apple's illusory offer to keep such activities private. It even knows about aspects of it." It states.
